Spring Meeting #1
Welcome back!
Internal Business:
1. Upcoming meeting dates for this semester (CHP 109)
- Monday, February 9th at 4:00pm-5:30pm
- Monday, March 23th at 4:00pm-5:30pm
- Monday, April 13th at 4:00pm-5:30pm
*If you have an elective Mondays until 5pm, you’re still expected to attend as much of the meeting as you can.
2. Counterpart Check-In
3. Recent Events Debrief:
- January 15: OTAC Fundraiser at CPK
- Went well! Raised $113 (36 people attended). Students from West Coast University attended and wanted to plan a mixer USC students (see OTAC discussion below)
- January 15: Bowling Social at Golden Mile Bowling
- 15 OT students attended along with PA and Pharmacy students.
- VIP (The Violence Intervention Program) Holiday Toy Drive
- Success! Numerous donations. VIP expressed their gratitude for the donations.
- January 23-25: OT Vegas Trip
- Great trip! Over 50 OT students attended.
4. End of the Year Party
- Friday, May 8th
- Location TBA
5. OT Float at Rose Parade
- Announcements will be made in Cohort classes; explain what and why we’re doing this. Ask for $1 from each student.
- Raising enough money to have an OT float, which costs $200,000, to gain worldwide exposure (17 million viewers)..

6. Continue to update “Council Duties by Position”
- Reminder: Update your “Council Duties by Position” Google Doc by Monday, February 2.
- Things you might want to include are:
- Important dates/deadlines
- Events related to your position
- Names/phone numbers/email addresses of important contacts
7. Committees
- International Forum (April 12th)
- Email about meeting time and more information about the event to come
- OT Month in April
- Meeting Thursday, Jan 29th at lunch (Room number TBA)
- End of the Year Party

External Business:
- 18th Annual Kids’ Day
- Professional development event on Feb 27th
- OT students will discuss specific health professions with 8th grade students. There will be 3 5-min workshops from 9:45 - 11:40am
- There will be short activities with games and prizes, lunch provided for speakers

1) AOTA (Phillip & Ann):
Update
- AOTA is having elections for its new incoming board members. Three of our first year OT classmates are running for student-led positions.

2) GSG Senator (Cindy & Patience):
Discussion
- March is Professional Development Month. Is there anything you want to see offered by GSG during that month? They are putting together CV/resume workshops, counseling appointments.
- Potentially hosting App Night (more information under professional development below)
- Are there any suggestions for HSC weekly updates that you would like to see changed? Additions, subtractions?
- Put tram schedule below event announcements, or put a link at the bottom of the email. Give more warning for future events.
- Community Service Committee projects this coming semester (March 7 Spirits in Action, Legacy LA workshops/mentorship)
- Contact Patience if interested in volunteering
- Depend on 1st years for Spirits in Action volunteers!
3) Historian (Leila & Heather):
Discussion
- Potential Video clips of students about why they chose OT, experience/ best memories from OT school, etc. Will need to schedule a week to film segments.
- Segments will be filmed during lunch. Leila and Heather will be contacting students with a time and place for interviews.
- Video marketing/promo for end of year party

4) International Affairs (Monica & Sarah):
Update
- If anyone else is interested in joining the committee, please let us know ASAP. We will be e-mailing soon with the first committee meeting date. We’d particularly like to invite MA I students to participate in the activities after the main presentation.
- International pen pals: we are considering creating a facebook group to allow more students the opportunity to communicate with OT students around the world. We’re waiting to hear back from the international students who have expressed interest in the program.
5) OTAC (Carlos & Jodie):
Discussion
- West Coast University and CSUDH OT social/mixer (?)
- Student delegates from above universities would like to have a mixer with USC OT students
- Possibly Angel City Brewery. Contact Carlos or Jodie with any other location options - somewhere easy to navigate and find parking
- OTAC Spring Symposium - flyer to come
- March 21st and 22nd (21st student track)
- Paradise Pier Hotel at Disneyland Resort

6) Philanthropy (Jonathan & May):
Update
Events currently planned for the semester:
- 1/27-LAHSA Homeless Count
- 2/14-Reading wtih Kids
- 4/11-Swim with Mike
We received over 100 toys for the Violence Intervention Program toy drive!
7) Professional Development (Karen & Rachel):
Discussion
- We would like to partner with the social chair to send out a survey to the faculty and students on topics they are interested in exploring. We were thinking of hosting a movie night featuring an OT-related documentary (perhaps The Crash Reel with Jane’s commentary). Or an OT App night to teach us useful apps we can use in practice.
