Spring Meeting #2

Welcome!

Internal Business:
1. Upcoming meeting dates for this semester (CHP 109)
  • Monday, March 23th at 4:00pm-5:30pm
  • Monday, April 13th at 4:00pm-5:30pm
*If you have an elective Mondays until 5pm, you’re still expected to attend as much of the meeting as you can.
2. Counterpart Check-In
3. Recent Events Debrief:
  • January 27-LAHSA Homeless Count: Unfortunately, no one reported that they attended.
  • January 31- Women’s Health Symposium: Big success! 12 OT Students attended. One of the most interactive booths at the symposium!
  • February 20-22- OT Cabin Trip: Great! Lots of hiking and snowboarding.
  • AOTA Voting Booth: Very successful. Many people stopped by to vote for our fellow Trojans!
  • OT Float Cohort Announcements: Cohort C is almost complete! Cohort A still collecting money.
4. End of the Year Party: Meeting tonight, February 23. Have venue confirmed (Versailles Ballroom). Contact Jen Chen and Kristen Wong with potential theme ideas. Ticket sales will begin after spring break.
5. OT Month Update: Tentative calendar sent out. Includes spreadsheet where you can sign up for events you would like to lead. Begin brainstorming marketing for event!
  • OT Month Kickoff: Mon, April 6th 12-1 on Broad Lawn (front of Einstein’s) free lunch and free OT Month buttons!
6. Continue to update “Council Duties by Position”
  • Reminder: Update your “Council Duties by Position” Google Doc
  • Things you might want to include are:
    • Important dates/deadlines
    • Events related to your position
    • Names/phone numbers/email addresses of important contacts

External Business:
  • California Health Professional Student Alliance (CaHPSA)
    • Statewide student organization dedicated to universal healthcare. They would like to share information with students in our program to share information and encourage students to spread the word about this idea. Professional Development will look into reserving a room for this information session.

Council Items:
1) AOTA (Phillip & Ann):
Update
  • AOTA is having elections for its new incoming board members. Three of our first year OT classmates are running for student-led positions. Voting ends February 25th!

2) Faculty Liaison (Kristy & Doug):
Update
  • We let the faculty know of upcoming student events and sales of OT merchandise. Provided them contact info for purchasing tumblers and Student Run Clinic Columbia fleeces with the new division logo. We also encouraged them to contact OTSC regarding contributing to the Dr. Neville Jan tribute video..  

3) Fundraising (Lori & Amy):
Update
  • Still waiting for additional quotes from new vendors (first few were too high for any profit to be made)
  • About half of tumblers and extra orders of shirts still available for purchase

4) Historian (Leila & Heather):
Discussion
  • OT Month Filming session scheduling- Filming will begin after spring break (March 23rd - 28th). Heather and Leila will send out a Google doc for sign ups. Students will be discussing their definition of OT and elaborate on their love of the profession.
  • End of the Year Party Filming session scheduling- Historians will begin filming the day we return from spring break.
  • Continue filming for Dr Neville-Jan video- Contact Heather or Leila if you would like to participate.

5) International Affairs (Monica & Sarah):
Discussion
  • Painting Day: 2/26 at 4pm, location TBA. We would appreciate ANY help with painting decorations for the International Forum. We will be providing materials. Anyone can attend, thanks!

6) OTAC (Carlos & Jodie):
Discussion
  • West Coast University is having a mixer on Friday, March 13th at 6PM at Angel City Brewery.
    • 40-50 of West Coast University students will be attending. They would love to see us there (especially to meet before the OTAC Spring Symposium)! Jodie will create an event and post on Facebook.
Update
  • OTAC Spring Symposium early bird registration ended this past Sunday, Feb 22. Regular registration fees are now: Saturday (student-track only) $78, Saturday&Sunday $98.

7) Philanthropy (Jonathan & May):
Update
  • 2/28 - Linc Housing Beautification Event
  • 3/14 - Reading To Kids
  • 3/28-3/29 - Relay For Life
    • Please help promote!
  • 4/11 - Swim with Mike
    • Sub-committee has been formed
    • Format has been changed this year, event will consist of a 35 minute swim, 35 minute run, and 35 minute bike ride! Awaiting more details from Ali Adams (co-coordinator of sub-committee)

8) Professional Development (Karen & Rachel):
Update
  • Planning for a Leadership Externship Debrief/Brown Bag Lunch on March 23rd, will be open to both 2nd and 1st years. Planning for a movie night to show Temple Grandin video in April and to have an App Brown Bag Lunch April 27 (to share and learn about approved OT apps for practice) as part of OT Month.
  • Monday lunch Following march 23 to discuss leadership externship experience

9) PTE Representative (Yasi):
Update
  • PTE Extravaganza will be March 28th from 9am-2:30pm at Center for Occupation & Lifestyle Redesign. The theme this year is Occupational Therapy in Primary Care: A Health and Wellness Experience.

10) Secretary (Leah & Kate)

  • If you have an update, please write exactly what your update is with important details. Please include:
    • Dates and times for OTSC events so that we can add them to the calendar and make sure they make it onto the Division calendar as well.
    • Abbreviations so we know what you’re talking about
