Undergraduate Representative Candidates

UNDERGRADUATE REPRESENTATIVE CANDIDATES

RACHEL ECKERLING

I would make a great undergraduate co-representative because I am organized, outgoing, and incredibly excited to continue my journey to become an occupational therapist. I tell anyone who will listen what occupational therapy is! I knew I loved the field when I volunteered as a counselor for children with physical and intellectual disabilities for five summers. The past two years in the OT program, I wasn’t aware of who the representative was, or what they were there for. As a co-representative, I will make sure each year of the undergraduate program knows who I am. They will know I am always available to hear their ideas and relay information about what the Master’s students are doing. The students will receive information as I do, and they will be connected via email. I want to be a resource for those going through the program.
I have ample experience leading a group. Junior and senior year of high school I was a freshman mentor. This responsibility included leading freshman in activities, relaying their opinions on the program to the coordinator, and being there when they needed advice.  I also have experience in spreading awareness/fundraising. This past year I started a team for the National Eating Disorder Awareness walk. I put my story of life with anorexia on Facebook and spoke to my sorority about how to better help a loved one. For my efforts, I was recognized as the number 2 fundraiser in the area. I would use my experience and passion to represent the undergraduate occupational therapy program.

                                   ANGELA KIM

Hello wonderful undergrads of OT! My name is Angela, and I am a 3rd year in the BA to MA program. Some of my favorite occupations include getting crafty with my crochet hook and snowboarding (even in the summer!). I know that as undergraduate students of a small graduate program, it may be difficult to feel like you are part of the larger OT community at USC. I want to be an undergraduate representative because I want to help OT undergraduate students feel more connected to USC’s division of OT by advocating for more volunteer and community events for you to be involved in. I have experience organizing events and representing students’ interests from serving as a student ambassador for USC Student Support and Advocacy where I helped put on events to increase awareness about resources on campus and led club workshops about issues on campus such as mental health.
I believe that every student in this program, with their individual talents, skills, and interests, has something unique to contribute to our exploration of OT, and I want to help each of you recognize your value to our community. To that end, I will be sure to give you the chance to share your input on the types of events you would like to participate in by working jointly with the pre-OT club and creating a Facebook undergraduate OT group to help you exchange ideas, keep up to date on events, and get connected with one another. OTs fight on!

NOELLE SCHORN

Hi, I’m Noelle Schorn and I would love to serve you as the Undergraduate Representative for the OTSC.  We are so fortunate to be a part of one of the few and top undergraduate programs for OT.  I know that in my two years here, I’ve felt extremely lucky to have a group of amazing people to share my curiosity and passion for occupational therapy.  That being said, I feel that there is a disconnect between us and the graduate community.  I want to make sure that our voice is heard over at the Health Science Campus and that we are taking full advantage of their resources.  It would be my honor to bring your input to the attention of the council as well as notify you about relevant OTSC events that could boost your educational and professional careers.  Being the best OT I can be is my top priority as I’m sure is yours.  I’m excited by this opportunity for the experience it will provide me, but also for the chance to serve my OT undergraduate family. A bit about myself:
·      Current PR chair for the Pre-OT club, focused on spreading the word about OT and reaching out to majors and non-majors alike. I’m an Aries so you know I’ll be heard J
·      Some of my favorite occupations include: shopping at the new Trader Joes, taking awesome electives, making roller-skating cool again, dance parties, and reading Isabel Allende novels
Thanks for your consideration!
