GENERAL UPDATES

Internal Business

1.      Spring 2018 Meetings - Mondays from 12:00-12:45pm. Attendance is mandatory; email Co-Chairs (Sarah and Rachel) if you have to miss. Spring meetings - Meeting dates are as follows:
       April 9th in CHP 112

2.      Welcome DiversOT!
       Representative: Patrice Zhao
       April 16th - first event during lunch
       Watch an episode of New Girl re: cultural appropriation and African-American culture.
       Conversation about the episode.
       Future events on cultural dilemmas presented by professors.
       Will create a spot on google doc for “DiversOT” to write in for future meetings.

       3. Future Ideas Update:
       Monthly newsletter
       The first OTSC E-Newsletter of the semester went out on March 25th! Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
       Positive feedback!
       All events listed on the e-newsletter are pulled from the OTSC minutes.
       Email Co-Chairs and Philanthropy for review.
       Goal is to send out the e-newsletter one week after OTSC meeting.
       Protocol
       2nd years should meet with 1st years prior to the end of the semester to make sure protocols are complete.
       Student Health Advisory Committee
       Meets 1-2 times per semester to get feedback from students on the university’s health and wellness initiatives.
       New officer position or added to the responsibilities of a current position?
       GSG position - possibly rename title to “student representative”?

COUNCIL ITEMS BY POSITION

       Faculty Liaison (Wesley & Jesse)
               DISCUSSION:
       Planning for Fieldwork Experience Exchange Event
       Experience allows 1st year to be paired with 2nd year based on Level II fieldwork.
       Monday, April 23, 12-1pm (room TBD)
       Hoping this can be an ongoing event.
       Budget for pizza: $70 (approved)
       Last Faculty Meeting on Friday, April 13th @ 10am
       OTSC Suggestion Box Meeting w/ Dr. Gray
       Will announce how the meeting goes.

       Fundraising (Eddie & Melinda)
DISCUSSION:
       Possible movie night with a food truck.
       Pair with Professional Development movie night event.
       Approximately $15-20 per ticket (leaning towards $15) - will need minimum 20 orders for food truck to be able to run promotion for us (food pick-up or delivery).
       Will provide soda/water to accompany the food (should cost less than $20) if it proceeds with enough interest.
       Professional Development will send out survey for the movie night and have the option to choose food.
       Need deadline to sign-up/pay so we can contact food truck.
UPDATES:
       T-shirts have arrived, and ready for sale! $20 each; SUPPORT OT MONTH!
       Alumni even asking to buy t-shirts.
       Email shirt info to OTSC gmail account.
       Melinda will figure out shipping details first.
       Possibly sell for $30/each for S&H.
       Cinnabon fundraiser successful - all Cinnabons sold, but mostly to faculty/staff.
       Thank you Melinda for your continued support in these food-related fundraisers!
       Total sales of merchandise this year (including Summer 2017 sales of sweatshirts): ??? (will need to calculate)

       GSG Senator (Katherine & Sarina)
DISCUSSION:
       IT Services at USC is forming a focus group and need graduate students for a few one hour meetings. No IT experience is necessary. Please contact gsgpres@usc.edu to participate.
       GSG is looking into the option of securing access to the New York Times for graduate students. Gathering input on whether this would be valuable for students’ graduate experience.

       Historian (Kiana & Julian)
UPDATES:
       Email to collect pictures for EOTY slideshow has been sent out. Will post about events on social media as necessary.
       Notify Historians if you want Facebook pages created for upcoming events (will update as part of job description).

       International Relations (Phil & Carlos) MAI: (Josh)
              DISCUSSION:
       International Forum was a great success! Thank you to everyone that helped in the process.

       Undergraduate Representatives (Christine & Angela)
UPDATES:
       Undergraduate/Graduate Social with Pre-OT Club went well! We had good discussions and Q&A about pursuing OT post-grad, and Pre-OT club is open to more collaborations in the future. Thank you to Eddie for coming out!
       Pre-OT Club sold shirts. If you bought one, it should be available in a couple of weeks.

       OTAC Representative (Kaitlyn & Evan)
DISCUSSION:
       Letter writing party next Monday 4/16 at lunch, CHP 112
       Pizza will be provided!
       10-15 minute talk, choose ⅓ issues, letter writing!
       Evan will take these letters to State Hill Day.
       Possible creation of an advocacy and government affairs position to capture state and national information.
       State Hill Day - May 9th.
UPDATES:
       Region 2 Legislative Reception April 26th, 6pm at West Coast University
       Sunday May 6th - first annual Intercollegiate Student Retreat in Orange County.
       Local OT schools are invited.
                              
       ASD REP (Hong & Brittanie)
              UPDATES:
       Compiling list of “Must See” sessions for conference from faculty
       AOTA ASD meeting Wednesday April 18th before conference. Will share information via email since next meeting won’t be until Fall.
       Will plan for Boardroom to Classroom Fall semester!

       Social Chair (Trisha & Jackson)
UPDATES:
       EOY party updates: ticket sales, appetizer menu finalized, etc.

       Philanthropy (Henna & Elissa)
DISCUSSION:
       Need 11 more people for the Festival of Books on 4/22!
              UPDATES:
       March events
       17 OT students marched with LG + co for March for Our Lives.
       Represented OT at Kid City Urban Foundation.
       KASEC Dev Screening + collaboration with Professional Development.
       Would love to do more collaborations with other OTSC positions in the future!
       OT Month events been going well, 74/86 spots filled!
       170 RSVP’ed, 100 people attended FITE Night
       Five student changemakers with lived experiences from USC, UC Berkeley, CSULA, CPP
       Dr. Tessa Milman, Jody Armour JD (from law), with Dr. Mary Lawlor facilitating
       Partnered with GSG, Revolutionary Scholars, USC Gould
       Raised over $620 for Painted Brain (goal was $500), got 120 totes donated by LG, will be packaging in a week
       MOSTe is this weekend! Panel with chan OTR alumni and time management workshop led by Dr. Rashelle Nagata. 
       Prize party for cohort that has the most points = crepes with Dr Baranek, OTSC advisors Drs. Rafeedie & Chu, FITE panelist Dr. Milman
       Writing an OTAC article about OTSC Philanthropy + OT Month - stay tuned!
       Next Philanthropy Committee meeting is 4/23, 12-1pm PLEASE COME :)

       Professional Development (Delaney & Catherine)
UPDATES:
       Bill Wong Brown Bag Lunch (April 9th)
       Life After USC (April 11th) in CHP G37 from 12-12:50pm
       Faculty panel will be sharing insights regarding what life would be like after USC.
       Kelly’s Hollywood (April 23rd) in CHP G37 at 5:30pm
       Free screening and possible food truck.
       Fliers and emails for sign-up will be sent out.
       KASEC (April 21st, May 5th, May 19th, June 2nd)
       Developmental screening events in LA and Irvine.

       Treasurer (Lina & Nicha)
UPDATES:
       Current amount: $4,342.18
       Give copy of receipts to Treasurer.
