__X__ Discussion
- We have created a new photo sharing option available to help with the end-of-the-year slideshow. This Facebook page is still in its beta stage.
- Drop Box option for those who don’t have facebook
6) International Affairs (Amy & Anastasia):
_X_ Discussion
Anastasia and Amy have been making connections this semester with the international students in the MAI and MAII programs, as well as with different professors. Topics for discussion include:
- Ideas for breakout sessions.
- Current ideas discussed-
- Reflections from 2nd year students recently returned from international leadership experiences - panel format, informal sharing
- How to apply for a Fullbright by USC’s Fullbright advisor Noosha Malek
- OTD perspective from Bill
- A professor from Dominguez Hills expressed that their students may have experience to contribute and/or interest in attending the forum. What do we think of opening this event to Dominguez Hills? If we do that, should we also invite contribution/participation from USC’s PT?
- International students have suggested other “international OT culture” components that could be included, such as a “street play” or short video from the Indian students and a “sports day” suggested by the Taiwanese students. I’m not sure how practically to include these. Any ideas?
- Please email Amy & Anastasia if you have any ideas!
- Potential date: Week of March 4-10 (2nd week after spring break)
- Potential themes: The adaptation of OT to international practice settings or, How to participate in international research and practice
- Current idea of structure for the forum:
- 1. Posters by international students and other relevant projects in the downstairs of the OT house (center for lifestyle redesign), networking and international food.
- 2. 3 breakout sessions, each repeated 3x so everyone can attend all sessions (suggested by Dr.’s Blanche and Cermak)
- 3. a panel or final keynote speaker to tie themes together.
- Ghana/international externships
- Panel and/or posters-- panel for those who can attend event, and/or posters/brochures for those unable to do so
- International students from Japan, Singapore, India and Taiwan have agreed to contribute to the forum by putting together posters on OT in their countries.
- Dr Blanche, Dr. Cermak, Dr. Millman and Kim Kelton are willing to help however we need them.
7) MA-I Representative (Toshi):
__X__ Update only
- Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Center will host the educational session of clinical interpreter certification in February, so those who can speak second language or more should attend it.
- Specific date will be announced soon.
8) OTAC Representative (Tara & Alyssa):
___X_ Discussion
- Discussed and voted on OTSC’s position on supporting the idea of mandatory student membership to state professional associations (e.g. OTAC) be considered for review by the department at their faculty meeting at the beginning of 2013 Spring semester.
- Majority rules in favor!
- The new OTAC monthly flyer updates will be called “OTAC Flash”.
9) OTD Representative (Bill):
X Update only
- Next OTalk2US will be TBD
- I was an invited guest for the 7th episode of OT Go To Podcast. Link will be up as soon as it is made available.
- Link to OT24Vx presentations are not up yet. Will keep everyone posted when the links are up.
- Updated OTD rep roles on Google Doc- “Be aware of OTAC and AOTA happenings”. The rationale is to check on whether OTAC and AOTA reps are up to date on what is happening in OTAC and AOTA. Ideally, it’s just to make sure certain crucial things are supposed to be done by these reps. But if not, OTD rep can notify OTAC or AOTA reps on such happenings so that appropriate actions/responses are taken ASAP.
- New OT Peer Review Journal (OJOT- short for Occupational Journal of Occupational Therapy)- You can access at http://scholarworks.wmich.edu/ojot/. This is developed by the Western Michigan OT Department.
10) OT House Liaison (Jen W.):

14) Treasurer (Susan & Mazelle):
__X__ Discussion
- Funds for the Ugly Sweater Gathering will have to come out of our OTSC general fund (not part of GSG). Social chairs submitted a budget proposal of $80 to cover the cost of gingerbread houses. Call for discussion and vote.
- Majority voted yes.
- Fundraising shout out - So far this semester we’ve made $1030 on t-shirt and clipboard sales. Thanks to Kristina Fender and everyone who has helped in our fundraising efforts! We can double this number if all t-shirts are sold.
UPDATE ONLY:
- Funding for International Forum - once we get a rough budget (by beginning of spring semester) it may be reasonable to ask for a partial sponsorship from the Division for funds. If we include PT as suggested above, we may be able to use Joint Programming Funds instead of our Umbrella Funds. If we include Dominguez Hills, we may be able to access Discretionary Funds instead of using our Umbrella Funds.
- Had a meeting with PTE presidents, treasurer, advisors and OTSC presidents, treasurers and advisors to discuss the allocation of GSG funding for both organizations because PTE is under the OTSC umbrella according to USC club recognition.. It was determined that PTE will follow up with the Division of OS/OT for the majority of funding requests and the majority of OTSC funds from GSG will remain allocated for the end-of-year banquet. Added to the Treasurer position description to have a meeting with and mentor the incoming PTE treasurer in the Spring to facilitate a smooth financial transition between clubs for the following year.
- It was approved by the GSG Director of Finance to spend the entirety of our funds for the spring semester. We will be composing an “intent-to-use” document about using our funds for the International Forum and Annual End of Year Banquet to submit by the beginning of next week (or as soon as we receive the document from the GSG Finance Director). This eliminates the need to spend our 25% by the end of the semester.
- If you need funding for an event this year, please submit a funds request form as soon as possible so we can budget accordingly. Note: It takes approximately 5 weeks to obtain funding for events. The form is at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dElvbk41dTA0Wm5hNTEzRjRzZmVJOEE6MQ&theme=0AX42CRMsmRFbUy05YjI3NzU3Yi1hODVmLTQ5NDUtOTA2Yi1mZDY0Nzc0ZWU1NTE&ifq
