Occupational Therapy and Science Council (OTSC)
Leadership Retreat

September 15, 2013



1:00 - 1:20 Welcome and Introductions

OTSC Vision: OTSC is a leadership organization that promotes and supports an engaged and powerful body of students that serves as a bridge-maker to realizing our vision of health and well-being within the community.

1:20 - 2:15 Groups present their goals and ideas for the year


AOTA (Colin & Phillip):
- Focus on building momentum for AOTA conference in Maryland.
-Planning a brown bag lunch to spread the word and increase student interest
-Aota steering committee is a student run committee and two recent graduates are currently involved.
-Philip will send links to learn more about the steering committee and how to run for        positions

Faculty Liaison (Jen S. & Kristy):-
-Faculty mentor email will be resent since there were some errors
- Suggestion box will be implemented so that students may voice their concerns and ideas


Fundraising (Kristina & Lori):
- Proposed ideas include: new tshirts, care packages for parents to purchase, OT yearbook bake sale


GSG Senator (Casey & Cindy):
-Discussed with council the purpose of GSG - monthly meeting including voting on issues and concerns voiced.


Historian (Amanda & Leila):
-Instagram account to promote USC OT
-Videography may be implemented to add another medium


International Affairs (Angela & Clara):
- Planning a Taiwan exchange
-International forum to showcase OT across the world. Speakers come to find out about opportunities to practice abroad.
-International grant and fellowship office attends: off support for USC alums up   to work abroad for up to three years after graduation


MA-I Representative (Samar ):
-Goal for the year is to make the MA-1 group more visible and integrated into department events and university activities.


OTAC (Alyssa & Carlos):
- Tea with a scholar at Center for Lifestyle Redesign
- Increase awareness of OTAC and that students want to be involved.
            -Working on getting chair to come talk about advocacy day.
- OTAC membership is mandatory from now on starting with current first years
- OTAC Sacramento conference
   -student track is Friday in small groups to talk with legislators about specific topics.
-Saturday has student specific sessions.

OT House Liaison
-Cindy was chosen as OT House liaison  


Philanthropy (Megan & Jonathan):
-Discussed increasng awareness
-Announcements in class, class facebook pages, fliers.
-Goal: bring out the best in our class members.

Professional Development (Stacy & Karen):
- Aim to create relationships between students and faculty
- Host faculty happy hours- planning several throughout the year.
- Continue outreach committee to promote OT at high school career days.
- Focus on undergraduates at USC to increase awareness of OT (collaborate with ambassadors)

Secretary (Laura & Leah):
-Keep up with email account
-Advertise that there is a calendar of OT events on the USC OTSC website
-Put a link to the OTSC blog on respective facebook page

Social Chair (Clarissa & Kristin):
Fall Semester:
-Tailgate on Saturday for Utah St game
-Nov 16 homecoming picnic with alumni
-Interdisciplinary mixer November 1
-Ugly holiday sweater party will take place at the Center for Lifestyle Redesign this year
Spring Semester (possible ideas):
-Bowling, wine and cheese, camping trip
Summer Session:
-Welcome happy hour for first years early in the summer
-Advertise the disco party for second year class

Treasurer (Mazelle & Molly):
- Reminder to request money at the very least 3 week before the event


2:15-2:25 Internal Business

Meeting Times (Meetings will take place in CHP 109)
Monday, September 23rd at 5:00 p.m.- 6:30 p.m.         
Monday, October 21st at 5:00 p.m.- 6:30 p.m.
Monday, November 4th at 5:00 p.m.- 6:30 p.m.
Monday, November 25th at 5:00 p.m.- 6:30 p.m.

-Form committees to get more students  involved: yearbook, international
forum, outreach, fundraising.

-A week before the meeting, co-chairs will send out a blank google doc :
If you want to bring something up at the meeting, check off “Discussion” and describe
the discussion topic in detail. If you check “Update only” be clear because we will not discuss, it will only be in writing.
