Recent Event Debrief
- AOTA & OTAC Lunch
on Monday, September 30 - Colin shared that
the Division gave money for this event, and the entire meeting went really
well. There were more than 50 people in attendance, and it was standing
room only! The speaker, Louie, was excellent. Colin, Phil, and Carlos
spoke during the meeting. People were excited to earn about the specific
bills that the AOTA and OTAC are working on as well as how to get
involved. Thank you to Alyssa for contacting Louie from Region 2, who is
motivated to get students involved in supporting the profession in a real
way. For next time, we will book a larger room to accommodate everyone.
- AOTA Hill Day on
Monday, September 30 - Alyssa described Hill Day as a
“whirlwind” and “eye-opening.” She felt motivated by seeing how much our
profession’s progress is in our hands. The political tone on the hill
(right before the government shutdown) showed her we need to be louder
than all of the other noise going on. That’s challenging! Individual
professions must work hard to carve out a place in the new healthcare
system that is evolving. There is a lot to be done, and there are more and
more people getting involved. Last year 500 people came to Hill Day, and
this year more than 750 people came. The expectation is that our
generation of OTs will be more involved than ever. She is planning to
create a podcast to talk about the experience. She will send the link when
it is produced.
- Historians created an
OTSC Instagram - Leila reported that she is documenting events that
are happening now. She is recruiting people from other cohorts to get
involved in documenting what is going on. Send Leila photos to add to the
account at
otsc.usc@gmail.com.
- OTSC T-Shirt Designs
- Kristina spoke about progress being made on t-shirts and tote bags.
Designs were due on October 18, and 10 designs were submitted. We will
vote on a winning design!

- Boardroom to Classroom:
Survey Results & Planning -
Yasi spoke about the survey results she compiled from the recent survey
she sent to the students. 75 students responded to the survey, which she
considered a strong turnout with room for growth. 55 of the respondents
indicated that they would be interested in participating in this project.
The most popular topic of interest on the survey was “current
factors impacting OT.” It received more than 75% of the votes.
- Kristy shared that
