COUNCIL ITEMS BY POSITION

  • AOTA ASD Representative (Ann & Kelsey)

UPDATES:
    • ASD Steering Committee Elections. AOTA is now accepting applications for the upcoming election. They are due October 16 at midnight (Not a minute later, they are very strict!) The positions that are up for election are: OT Vice Chairperson, OTA Vice Chairperson, Student Representative to Commission on Education (COE), and Student Representative to Representative Assembly (RA)
    • Student Conclave is coming up! Student Conclave is November 13-14 in Valley Forge (suburban Philadelphia), Pennsylvania. The AOTA/NBCOT National Student Conclave, was created exclusively for occupational therapy and occupational therapy assistant students. Early registration (aka cheapest rates) closes October 15th.

  • Faculty Liaison (Doug & Auston)
DISCUSSION
Maggie will be accompanying Auston to his first faculty meeting this Friday, October 9 at 10 AM Room 109
UPDATES:
    • The email reminding students about the online suggestion box should be sent this week.
    • Possible event idea: Informal Faculty Brown Bag lunch once a month

  • Fundraising (Amy & Carolin)
UPDATES:
    • Will send email to all OT students about design contest (winner gets free merchandise). Will also send out survey monkey to see what other merchandise people would be interested in.

  • Historian (Heather & Evelyn)
UPDATES:
    • Attended the NAMI walk event, other events that people attend that are OT related, they should send to either Evelyn or Heather to be used for social media for OTSC.
    • Any other important events coming up this fall that we should try to get photos of?
    • Any events you want publicized, talk to the Historian co-chairs to share on social media

    • We will be coordinating a Thanksgiving potluck with MA-Is. More info to follow.

    • Possible Angel City Brewery Event with OTAC Region 2--details TBD
  • PhD Representative (Kristine)
UPDATES:
    • Will be reaching out to PhD students to see if they have ideas for how to engage with OTSC - please contact Kristine with additional ideas that could make collaboration a priority!

  • Philanthropy (May & Jamie)
DISCUSSION:
  • Budget for OT Global Day of Service (OTGDS) Raffle
UPDATES:
    • Since OTGDS falls on a Tuesday this year, we were hoping to have OTGDS events at school. Throughout the week we will have different events to promote OT and community service. In addition, we would like to have a raffle to encourage people to participate in OTGDS events during that week.
    • Charity Mile--walk around HSC campus
    • Possible ideas: Week long drive, Engage, Painted Brain, Therapy dogs
    • OTGDS: day to promote OT through community service events
    • Create newsletter to market for the event

  • Professional Development (Rachel & Allison)
UPDATES:
    • Rehabilitation in Oncology lecture happening now! With over 100 people signed up, thank you for the extended budget. We will submit our final amount spent to the Treasurers by Tuesday.
    • Events in progress: Faculty/student Mixers, Lunch with Chan series partnering with Faculty Liaisons to invite faculty members to brown bag lunches to share their research/expertise, and Resume/interview Forum

  • If you have an update, please write exactly what your update is with important details. That way it can be included in the minutes and posted on the blog.
  • Be sure to spell out abbreviations so everyone knows what you’re referencing.
  • Include dates and times for OTSC events so that we can add them to the calendar and make sure they make it onto the Division calendar as well.

  • Vote to approve $150 for banner for tailgates/other social events--approved
UPDATES:
    • Next OT/PT tailgate: USC vs Utah 10/24
    • Currently planning Thanksgiving Potluck in collaboration with the International Relations Chairs, tentatively for lunch on Monday, 11/23
    • Currently planning Holiday Sweater Day for Monday, 11/30
    • Currently planning Holiday Party, tentatively for the evening of Friday, 12/11

  • Confirmed with Jordi that reimbursement receipts need to be submitted to her by the purchaser. Please send her the original receipts and email us a copy so that we can update the budget on our end.
