GENERAL UPDATES
Internal Business
  1. Spring semester meetings will be on Mondays from 4:00-5:30pm in CHP 112.  Please inform your Co-Chairs if you will not be in attendance.  If you have conflicting electives, the expectation is that you will attend as much of the meeting as possible. Meeting dates are as follows:
    • January 25th
    • February 22nd
    • March 21st
    • April 11th
  2. Upcoming Events:
    • Monday, February 1, CHP G37, 5:30-8pm
      • Professional Development Event, Huntington’s Dance Screening  
    • April - OT Month
    • Apr. 4 - Guest lecture: Paul Fontana, OTR/L, FAOTA (topic: work hardening, ergonomics, workplace assessments, private practice)
      • We need a big turnout to make it worth his time. Can we promote it as an event to kick off OT Month?
    • Friday, May 6, End of the Year Party

    • OT Vegas Trip- Huge success, lots of fun

      • Ideas for fundraising: Money from merchandise sales, recognition at End of Year Party, Rose pin for donation, cohort competition, restaurant night/happy hour with proceeds going towards float (CPK)

    • AOTA elections until Friday Jan 29th. One USC student (Riley!) is running so please support her!

COUNCIL ITEMS BY POSITION
  1. Faculty Liaison (Doug & Auston)
UPDATES:
  • Continuing the Better Know A Professor Series with a Brown Bag Lunch with Adult Rehab Faculty. The proposed date is Monday, February 22nd.
  • Will communicate Huntington’s Dance event with faculty
2.                   Fundraising (Amy & Carolin)
DISCUSSION:
  • Merchandise, increasing sales, ideas for other items
    • Will open survey to all OT students
    • Ideas: Baby onesies, license plate holders, hats
    • 4 volunteers one time on Monday at lunch to sell merchandise: Dana Cary, Jen Chen, Amy Rebhun, Caro Ding

UPDATES:
  • $1100 earned for merchandise, still a ways to go to break even
  • continued sales throughout Spring Semester
3.                   Historian (Heather & Evelyn)
UPDATES:
  • Cohort Class Photos
  • Picture of students spelling out OT
  • Send historians pictures for the end of the year party
  • Upcoming events in February/March
  • Continue to send photos to your fellow Historians
4.                   International Relations (Sarah & Ken)
DISCUSSION:
  • International forum planning has begun! Our tentative date is Friday April 1, from 9am to 12:30pm. Breakfast will be provided from Einstein’s. We are inviting the MA Is to play a larger role in the forum this year, but are still looking for a professor or OT practitioner willing to share his/her international experience, if anyone has any suggestions. Contact us if you know of an OT with experience abroad. Location TBD.
  • Those interested in being on the international forum committee, please stay for a few minutes after the meeting to discuss further logistics! Thank you :)
5.                   GSG Senators (Patience & Kaitlin)
DISCUSSION:
  • LA Homeless Count - Drive from Thurs Jan 29th from 7-11pm to attempt to count the homeless population of LA county. Important for funding for organizations working with homeless population in LA.
  • GSG Elections - All OTSC board members are eligible to run.
6.                   OTAC Representative (Jodie & Erwin)
DISCUSSION:
  • Feedback about OTAC Flash: are they helpful? Do your friends read them?
    • Most read them through the emails

UPDATES:
  • OTAC Town Hall Meeting Wednesday, February 3rd at Rancho from 5-7PM
  • OTAC Legislative Reception Friday, April 15 at Dominguez Hills from 6pm.. more details to come :)
7.                   Philanthropy (May & Jamie)
UPDATES:
  • In the process of planning events for this semester and OT month.dates/times will be provided soon! Please send any OT related events
  • Current date set for Swim with Mike-April 12th (during OT month) and Relay for Life on April 2nd
8.                   Professional Development (Rachel & Allison)
DISCUSSION:
  • We will be screening Huntington’s Dance on Monday, February 1st at 5pm. As a part of this event, we will serve a light dinner and host the Creative Producer and Editor of the film. They will participate in a Q + A session following the film screening. Please spread the word! Turnout expected between 120-150.
    • Vote on dinner budget $350: Approved
  • Coordinating with AAA CarFit Programs for training and event in Feb and April, details to come
    • Free event: Train you how to fit CarFit. Helps elderly fit their car better to their needs.
  • 4OTswitchboard shared on facebook- database of specific OT groups focusing on practice areas and toolkits.
  • Will continue to share relevant blogs and tips for practice

9.                   Social Chair (Jen & Benz)
DISCUSSION:
  • End of the Year Party: Need 2-3 volunteers per cohort (1st years) and OS class (2nd years) to sell tickets, as well as 1 volunteer for MA1, OTD, and PhD. (Ticket sales will probably begin the week following Spring Break!)
    • Cohort A: Dana, Auston
    • Cohort B: Caro
    • Cohort C: Kaitlin
  • Cabin trip: Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead. More info to come.
