Internal Business

  1. Spring semester meetings will be on Mondays from 4:00-5:30pm in CHP 112.  Please inform your Co-Chairs if you will not be in attendance. Meeting dates are as follows:
    • March 21st
    • April 11th
  2. Upcoming Events:
    • March 2? Interdisciplinary Health
    • April - OT Month
    • Apr. 2 - OT Extravaganza @ Center for Occupation and Lifestyle Redesign
    • Apr. 4 - Guest lecture: Paul Fontana, OTR/L, FAOTA (topic: work hardening, ergonomics, workplace assessments, private practice)
      • We need a big turnout to make it worth his time. Can we promote it as an event to kick off OT Month?
    • Apr. 15-17 - OT Big Bear Cabin Trip
    • Apr. 18 - International Forum - 4:30-8 pm, G37
    • Apr. 21 - Film Screening and Q&A Session (“My Dog is My Home” - film about the human/animal bond for people who are homeless)
    • Friday, May 6 -  End of the Year Party
  3. Recent Event Debrief:
    • Candy grams - big success!
    • Meeting with China Initiative: meet with Adley Chan and other OTD students regarding the initiative.
    • Better know your Professor lunch - pediatrics
  4. Internal business:
    • International Forum date is secured
    • Dana will be making a newsletter for March. Contact her if you would like her to add anything. .
    • Children’s Day: have OTs talk about our profession to middle school day
      • Date: April 1st, 12:45-2pm
    • Rose Float Fundraiser: if YOU haven’t donated yet, now is your time!

COUNCIL ITEMS BY POSITION
  1. Faculty Liaison (Doug & Auston)
DISCUSSION:
  • More electives for fall semester for second years? Have first years complete a survey to provide feedback for meetings with faculty.
UPDATES:
  • Today we had a “Better Know a Professor” brown bag lunch event featuring our pediatrics faculty. Dr. Gunter, Dr. Park, Dr. Blanche, Dr. Kingsley and Dr. Bodison were able to answer students’ questions from 12 to 1 in room #139.

  • The next “Better Know a Professor” brown bag lunch event is taking place on Monday March 21st at 12 to 1pm. The event will be featuring our adult rehab faculty. Dr. Rafeedie, Dr. Orr, Dr. Ang, Dr. Meyer, Dr. Bennett and Dr. Wilcox have signed up to attend so far.

  1. Fundraising (Amy & Carolin)
DISCUSSION:
  • T-shirt sales are inconsistent. May lower the price of t-shirt to $20 in order to sell more.
  • Merchandise Poll Highest Votes: badge reels, hats, lunch bags, mugs
    • Potentially buy clothing from Walmart and bring to screening place
    • Other merchandise ideas: tumblers, half-zip jacket, athletic wear jacket
  1. Historian (Heather & Evelyn)
DISCUSSION:
  • Send appropriate pictures to Historians for end of the year slideshow!
  1. International Relations (Sarah & Ken)
DISCUSSION:
  • International Forum updates: April 18th 4:30 pm- 8pm , still looking for a ‘keynote’ speaker
    • Dr. Rafeedie sent out an email to all professors regarding keynote speaker ideas
    • Ken will ask OTD student from Saudi Arabia who works with Royal Family and wants to open a sensory clinic
    • Discuss MAI students if they know anyone who may be able to speak
    • Gift to speaker? Potentially a t-shirt or other Chan merchandise

UPDATES:
  • MA1s are on board with presenting before their night class
  • Banh Mi Sandwiches and snacks
  • Finding a date for our ‘Cultural Art (Flag making) Event,’ most likely a week before the Forum
    • Potential Date: April 11
    • Other ideas: scrapbooks for people to look at or make themselves

  1. GSG Senators (Patience & Kaitlin)
DISCUSSION:
  • The newsletter sent every Monday has may lotteries for grad students to enter
  • Service opportunity twice a month on Saturdays--Peace Kids Tutoring run by an OT
    • Event from 9-2pm
    • Tutoring from 2-3:30pm
  1. ASD Representative (Ann & Kelsey)
DISCUSSION:
  • Tufts University student said they would be willing to collaborate with USC on anything in the future.

  • Master Calendar/Newsletter for all OT month events

  • USC Kicks for Kids- March 6 and April 17: USC McCarthy Quad 10:15-12:00 PM
  • Swim with Mike & Relay for Life-April 2nd--schedule conflict with OT extravaganza

  1. PTE Liaison (Maggie)
UPDATES:
  • OT Extravaganza - Saturday, April 2nd @ Center for Occupation and Lifestyle Redesign
    • Attendance is very important!! So spread the word and plan to be there!
    • Theme is “Art of OT” and will focus on creativity in OT practice and ways various art forms can be therapeutic for clients
  1. Professional Development (Rachel & Allison)
DISCUSSION:

  • April 4- Ergonomics and Industrial Work Hardening guest speaker
    • Approved budget for food under Dr. Clark for $250
    • Extend invitation to West Coast and Dominguez Hills?
  • CarFit training and community event this weekend and again in April
    • Will send out email and post flyers on facebook groups
  • In process- OT brown bag lunch--“Life after USC”
    • Must have student interest in order for event to be approved
  1. Social Chair (Jen & Benz)
DISCUSSION:

  • OT Big Bear Cabin Trip - April 15-17th
  • End of the Year Party:
    • Committee Meeting: $1000 deposit is confirmed
    • Theme: THe enCHANted gardens
    • Marketing ideas: promo video, facebook event, classroom announcements
    • Ticket sales start March 28th and prices start at $35 and increase $5 after the first two weeks of sales
    • Payment types: cash or checks made payable to USC OT
  • Volunteers for Interdisciplinary Health Fair
    • What: committee of social chairs from each USC health program proposed a health fair where every discipline offers some sort of service
    • Potential date: March 26th
    • Need an OT point person: Dana Carey and Carolin Ding
  1. Treasurer (Belle & Shannon)

  • GSG approved the money for the end of the year party
