Internal Business

  1. Fall 2017 Meetings - Mondays from 12:00-12:45pm in CHP 112 (Attendance is mandatory; email Co-Chairs (Sarah and Rachel) if you have to miss. Spring meetings TBD)
  2. Spring 2017 Meetings - Discussion on dates and times
    • Keep in mind Spring Break, Fieldwork Week, and Externship - first years will run one meeting by themselves during 2nd year Externship

    • Volunteer slots sent out every Monday at noon
  • Spring 2018: Partnering with GSG
    • Documentary screening

  • Nov 27th: Krispy Kreme Fundraiser for Univ. of Puerto Rico
    • Advertise in class this week
  • Spring 2018: Urban Garden in Boyle Heights
    • Need volunteers, still working out details with date

UPDATES:
  • Dr. Rafeedie waiting on AOTA scholarship green light.
    • Seemed receptive to raffle for scholarship
    • Plug for PT/OT Forum
    • Last faculty meeting December 1st - let chairs know if we have any concerns/comments to bring up at this time.

  1. Fundraising (Eddie & Melinda)
DISCUSSION:
  • Shirts and sweaters sold last week:  Total $278
  • New merchandise: Toothpick holder, USB drive, open up contest for designing new shirts (possible punny slogan, polo/dressier shirt)
  • Other: In-N-Out Lunch Tour in January (pre-sell 300 tickets @ $5-$7 each)
  1. GSG Senator (Katherine & Sarina)
UPDATES:
  • Positions for 2018-2019 Graduate Student Government are now open for application.
  • Wednesday 11/29 12-1 pm: Roads of Phenomenal Women Panel- Women in Healthcare Professions. Lunch provided!
    • Location TBD. Email will be sent out this week.

UPDATES:
  • 2 / 3 first year cohort pictures done
  • Continue to post pictures and promote events


  1. Undergraduate Representatives (Christine & Angela)
DISCUSSION:
  • Facebook Group- Feel free to post! “USC Chan Undergraduates”
  • Spring 2018: Possible Undergraduate+Graduate Mixer/Q&A
    • Budgeting for food
    • Location at UPC
  1. OTAC Representative (Kaitlyn & Evan)
DISCUSSION:
  • 2018 State Legislative Priorities
    • Possible amended bill coming out in January
    • Proposal of OT interns getting paid - feasibility with FW sites…?
    • Currently working on bill for OT Advanced Certification in school-based settings
  • Letter writing event in late April
    • Encourage people to be involved in policy for OT
    • Bring to May 9th event - Sacramento

DISCUSSION:
  • AOTA/NBCOT
    • Seemed more appropriate for 2nd years with recruiters present, but also resourceful for 1st years
  • Scholarships for AOTA
    • $800 - speakers
    • $600 - everyone else …
      • Proposal to fund for $500 since flights to Utah are cheaper than Philadelphia - can accommodate more people with scholarships
  • Fund speaker to come in Spring semester, lecture on resumes/interviews?
    • $150-$200 for flights - unable to fund but flexible in scheduling during a time when already in L.A.
  • Fundraising T-shirt ideas

  1. Social Chair (Trisha & Jackson)
DISCUSSION:
    • EOY party date/venue update
      • University Club in Pasadena - Trisha will book
        • Will most likely have to pay out of our own funds if putting deposit down this semester  
      • May 4th date
    • Halloween lunch
      • Success!
      • Gave away 6 shirts for prizes
    • Last tailgate
      • Huge attendance
    • Rooms booked for Vegas - start paying Jackson back
  1. Professional Development (Delaney & Catherine)
DISCUSSION:
  • November 29th @ 12 Albert Schweitzer Fellowship presentation in CHP 109
  • Dr. Bill Wong presentation moved to Spring Semester
  • Kinesio Taping presentation in Spring Semester
  • Job search/resume workshop in Spring Semester
    • Possible overlap with Hong’s idea
    • Need to talk with USC and get approval if utilizing a business agency since they are marketing their company and their product
  1. Treasurer (Lina & Nicha)
UPDATES:
  • Contacted GSG regarding GSG funds to cover initial venue deposit
