GENERAL UPDATES

Internal Business

  1. Spring 2018 Meetings - Mondays from 12:00-12:45pm. Attendance is mandatory; email Co-Chairs (Sarah and Rachel) if you have to miss. Spring meetings (TBD) - Meeting dates are as follows:
      January 22nd in CHP 112
      February 12th in CHP 225 (This is also the date of the mentor/mentee lunch for 2nd years. First year OTSC members will run the meeting.)
      March 19th in CHP 112
      Remember to vote for “celebratory” lunch for last meeting.
      April 9th in CHP 112
  1. Future lunches??
      To date, hold off on lunches to save money. Possibly do a celebratory lunch during April 9th meeting.

      Feb 2nd: Carissa Cascio Research Presentation (Dr. Danny Park sent an email out about this) - on Friday from 12-1 pm in CHP

  1. Faculty Liaison (Wesley & Jesse)
UPDATES:
      Past Faculty Meeting on 1/19
      Reminder that all events hosted by OTSC need to be approved by our faculty advisors.
      Front Porch Panel Event: waiting on date confirmation from OTSC. Need to pick date ASAP.
      Two of our professors would like to speak at this event.
      Faculty interest in “Breaking Bread Program” (BS-MA Representatives, Christine & Angela)
      Program for undergraduates to get to know faculty better.
      Staff, Faculty, & Students Brown Bag Lunch
      Potential Dates:
      Wednesday, February 21st 12-1pm
      Monday, March 26th 12-1pm
      Potential Topics:
      OT Across the Lifespan
      Budget available to provide lunch?
      Lunch will not be provided. Bring your own lunch.

  1. Fundraising (Eddie & Melinda)
DISCUSSION:
      Two designs received for new merchandise sales. Planning date for student-wide vote once design approvals are finalized.
      Open up sales to undergraduate students as well
      In-N-Out fundraiser feasibility. Ticket sales.
      Need to clear with school first.
      Food survey will possibly be sent out.

UPDATES:
      Sandwich making event hosted by GSG
      Wednesday 1/24 on CHP Patio 4-6pm
      Sandwiches will be donated to Union Station Homeless Services
      Sign-in to enter AOTA raffle
  1. Historian (Kiana & Julian)
UPDATES: Going to begin collecting pictures for slideshow.

  1. International Relations (Phil & Carlos) MAI: (Josh)
            UPDATES:
      International Forum Tentative Dates:
      March 26, 2018 (Monday) Starting at 4:00 pm (Any conflicts?), About 2 hours long
      Phil will email Dr. Chu regarding calendar
      What is the International Forum?
      Geared toward first year students receiving more information about international opportunities for OT
      Keynote speaker - Possible candidates:
      Dr. Erna Blanche
      (2-4) MA-II students will speak on their international externship experience
      (1-2) MA-I will also speak on their international working experience.
      PechaKucha style 20x20 slides
       Food ideas/budget ($200-$300)
      Vote on budget on March 19th.

  1. Undergraduate Representatives (Christine & Angela)
DISCUSSION:
      Going to reach out to Pre-OT club and undergrads once Front Porch event is confirmed
      Will communicate with Dr. Rafeedie about “Breaking Bread” event
      Q & A + Social event at UPC (reserve a room, budget for food)
      Thursday nights would be ideal
      Gauge official interest in undergrads
      Facebook poll
      Target students living at OT House especially & first years that were previously in the Pre-OT club
      Open up Chan Division merchandise to undergraduates.

  1. OTAC Representative (Kaitlyn & Evan)
DISCUSSION:
      State Hill Day May 9
      Letter Writing Party April 14 or 28.
      OTAC offered to provide pizza for the event
      To encourage submission toward government process.
      LA County Homeless Count
      January 23-25
      Please volunteer for one evening!
                                              
  1. ASD REP (Hong & Brittanie)
DISCUSSION:
      Announced AOTA raffle opportunity (via facebook groups)
      Participate in activities hosted by AOTA in order to enter raffle
      Collaboration with philanthropy - through clothing drive with the incentive to be placed in the raffle
      Planning boardroom to classroom webcast sometime next month, with attendance as another opportunity for raffle
      Webcast will be hosted by a board member from AOTA
      February 5th or February 12th at lunch?
      Conflicts February 12th - OTSC meeting and Peer Mentor/Mentee meeting at lunch that day
      Possibly a date during week of 2/19-2/23 based on AOTA availability.
      AOTA elections are coming up - polls close January 30th, also posted incentive for voting.
      E-mail will be sent out with list of opportunities - winners announced February 23rd to allow enough time to buy flights for Salt Lake City.
      Dr. Rafeedie will send out email listing AOTA conference scholarship winners.
      AOTA info session will be hosted next week.

DISCUSSION:
      OT Vegas was a success!
      EOY party update: May 4th
      Committees will be formed once event location is finalized.
  1. Philanthropy (Henna & Elissa)
DISCUSSION:
      Clothing Drive: (1/18-1/23) at CHP 139 in Kitchen
      Very successful so far!
      Clothing Sorting: 1/23 from 4:30-6:00 pm at Currie Hall
      February: Share a Meal burrito distribution in DTLA
      Possible OT/PT event to clean-up trash on Valley.
  1. Professional Development (Delaney & Catherine)
DISCUSSION:
      Kinesiotaping/ George Toth-Felel
      January 13th went well
      Considering 2 more follow ups later in January or early February
      Workshops are halted for now until further notice.
      Front Porch/ Davis Park
      Presentation and panel with faculty.
      Undergrad students welcome.
      Aiming for February, still waiting on confirmation from Front Porch
