GENERAL UPDATES

Internal Business

1.      Spring 2018 Meetings - Mondays from 12:00-12:45pm. Attendance is mandatory; email Co-Chairs (Sarah and Rachel) if you have to miss. Spring meetings - Meeting dates are as follows:
       March 19th in CHP 112
       Vote for “celebratory” lunch for last meeting (April 9th).
       Bring in lunch for March 19th meeting.
       April 9th in CHP 112

2.      Future Lunches:
       Vote will occur at March 19th meeting regarding lunch being provided at future meetings

3.      Upcoming Events:
       March 23rd - possible OT/PT event at a brewery
       Event details will be more finalized by next meeting

       4. Future Ideas:
       Monthly newsletter
       Event alert to be sent out and not so much a retrospective newsletter
       Event alert could be placed on bulletin boards 
       MailChimp as a possible tool for email template for event alert
       Google calendar of events viewable to students
       Continue to email Kimberly Kho to post events on Chan website
       Debrief retreat with first year counterparts next year to talk about responsibilities:
       Keep a day/afternoon free in mind for next year
       Write a one page protocol to pass down to first year counterparts; write during summer
       Ask second years to begin protocols and first years provide feedback
       Completed protocols could be posted on OTSC website
       Bonding activities
       Rollerblading, ice skating, beach party
       Second year counterpart gift
       Give during last meeting (April 9th)
       Check into budget for gifts
       Talk about ideas based on budget

COUNCIL ITEMS BY POSITION

       Faculty Liaison (Wesley & Jesse)
              DISCUSSION:
       Create Google doc of scheduled events and then bold the events that have been completed
       Event recap of each position could be helpful
UPDATES:
       Provided reports to faculty meeting. Encourage to talk to film school and library re: event
       Helpful to have a central communication hub
       Facilitate events of student interest
       Faculty love hearing personalized events/stories.
       Please share event experiences to Faculty Liaisons.


       Fundraising (Eddie & Melinda)
DISCUSSION:
       Valentine’s candy apple fundraiser 2/12-2/13 during lunch
       Voting for new OT t-shirt design
       T-shirt
       Tote bag?
       Spirit jersey for OTSC?
       Decided against this idea
       Business card fundraiser
       Polled each cohort and there is considerable interest
UPDATES:
       In N Out fundraiser canceled due to high minimum

       GSG Senator (Katherine & Sarina)
DISCUSSION:
       Microwave Thief on campus
       GSG has voted to buy one new microwave for entire student population on HSC
       GSG wants to take some green initiatives- potentially straw free, implementing more water bottle filling stations, etc.
       Any ideas?
UPDATES:
       Financial Changes- See GSG Website prior to sending in questions (Highly recommended)
       Discretionary/ Volunteer funds are closed until further notice
       Treasurer/ President of OTSC needs to submit the Spring Intent to use form by 2/14 → how much money we think we will be using and the contact information is on the website → RSO event funding then click intent to use form
       Joint Fund: money to promote interaction between 2 disciplines or 2 different colleges at USC or in the community
       Social Justice Fund: funding available for events that promote social justice through GSG
       Events:
       Wednesday Workouts every week at 5pm
       Upcoming movie night in Alhambra- $5 includes movie, snack/drink
       Laser tag event in early March through GSG
       GSG end of the semester happy hour @ Barbara’s
       GSG Kitchenware drive benefiting victims of the fires
       GSG (potential event) hygiene kit assembly for the homeless

UPDATES:
       Will begin to collect pictures for EOY slideshow.
       Continue posting pictures


       International Relations (Phil & Carlos) MAI: (Josh)
              DISCUSSION:
       International Forum:
       Date: March 26, 2018 (Monday) - conflicts with MA-II midterms schedule?
       Time: 4:00pm
       Room: TBD (Most likely Room 110 or 111)
       Food: Banh mi sandwiches and beverages (~$300) - contingent on how many people RSVP
       Send out RSVP to gauge interest
UPDATES:
       Dr. Blanche has verbally agreed to be our guest speaker
       Plus two MA-I students will be speakers
       IF flyer in the works!


       Undergraduate Representatives (Christine & Angela)
UPDATES:
       Undergrad + grad social postponed tentatively to week after spring break (possibly Thursday 3/22)
       OS minor event next week so Dr. Bennett suggested postponing undergrad+grad social
       Please continue to get the word out; encourage peers to sign up as panelists
       Let Pre-OT club know about Front Porch panel
       Breaking Bread Program- drafted email to Dr. Rafeedie to send to faculty

       OTAC Representative (Kaitlyn & Evan)
DISCUSSION:
       Change date of Letter Writing Party to Monday, April 23rd at 12pm.  Format will include pizza, 10-15 minutes talk on important legislative issues, then a chance for all to write their representatives.  Is there an approval process we need to go through to hold this meeting?
       Receive approval from Dr. Rafeedie and Dr. Chu
       Students can organize but cannot be affiliated with faculty
       Make it mandatory for OTSC Board?
       Budget approval for supplies and envelopes?
       Bring this up at next meeting
       Advocacy club has been tentatively approved.
       Student club run by Velia Ramirez
UPDATES:
        OTAC Town Hall Meeting Feb 28 5-7pm
       At Rancho
       Dr. Lindsey Reeves, OTD, OTR/L is keynote speaker
       OTAC spring symposium the weekend of March 24th-25th in San Diego, conference call last week with other delegates went well and they’re looking to increase participation and events in our region 2 area.
       Only $90 for students to attend
       Southern California OTAC Student retreat: 5/6/18 (All Schools)
       More details to come

DISCUSSION:
       Therapy Cap repealed after 20 years!
              UPDATES:
       Hong held an AOTA meeting during lunch that went well, widespread the ppt via email
       Boardroom to Classroom Update: Latest details, received our request and are looking for a board member for us.

DISCUSSION:
       PT/OT event possibly on March 23rd

       Philanthropy (Henna & Elissa)
DISCUSSION:
       Volunteering with Share a Meal: Wednesday, 2/21, 5-9 pm, UPC
       Tentative: Screening of FITE: Formerly Incarcerated to Education Documentary
       Collaboration with law school
       Work with GSG on budget
       Philanthropy committee to be formed at a later time
              UPDATES:
       Skid Row Carnival of Love: Great turnout and participation of volunteers and donations

       Professional Development (Delaney & Catherine)
DISCUSSION:
       Ways to gain more peer input?
       From student body
       Utilize feedback/suggestion box
       Revamp box to include OTSC components
       Have a certain portion of OTSC Board go to events
